I was born here at Bourton-on-the-Hill, left school and worked on the farm straight away. I was milking cows on my own by 1962. I took over the tenancy in 1984, at the same time I took the tenancy of Bank, farm Aston Magna which is run on the same lines as here with a further 120 cows. I like all country pursuits and love all sport. I was taught how to hedge lay by Lord Dulverton’s head forester, Ken Hope whom I owe a lot, he taught me well. I have competed in numerous competitions all over the country, winning many prizes. I now judge hedge laying matches and last year had the honour of judging at the Hedge Laying Championships held at the HRH The Prince of Wales, farm at Tetbury. I am now the Chairman of the National Hedge Laying Society and past Chairman of Gloucestershire Root Fruit and Grain Society.

My Family History
My father Ken and mother Joan came here in 1945 from Leominster, Herefordshire. To bring all their effects. animals, farm carts, horses etc cost £37.10, he had 10 cows. After the War farmers were encouraged to grow as much home produced food as possible, as a country we nearly ran out during the war. My Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Great Great fathers were all farmers as far back as 200 years. I was taught at an early age to be a Custodian of the Countryside, been told "to leave the land as you found it". We are after all just big gardeners.
